Wadeley Racing Team kicked off the 2023 RMC South African Championship with a solid performance at the iDube Raceway on Saturday.
Matthew Wadeley qualified in the middle of the pack in ninth place out of 22 drivers and was able to maintain his position in the three races that followed. His consistent driving earned him ninth place overall for the day with some of his best lap times at iDube in recent visits.
Jordon, on the other hand, had a more eventful day. Qualifying ninth out of twelve drivers, he managed to climb up the ranks in the first two races, finishing in tenth and then a remarkable second place. Unfortunately, he was penalized for a nose cone infringement in the first race, which saw him drop down the rankings. Despite this setback, Jordon managed to secure a ninth-place finish in the third race, which saw him finish the day in sixth place overall.
The team was pleased with their performance on the day, despite some challenges. Matthew was satisfied with his consistent performance and Jordon, while disappointed with the penalty, remained upbeat and focused on the positives. With both overall results still up in the air, the results given for both drivers are currently provisional and subject to change.
“The weekend was good, both boys were solid”, said father Brad. “Unfortunately the accident involving Matthew Chiwara put a damper on the weekend, as well as a few protests in both the boy’s classes. We are just glad Matthew is ok and the whole team wishes him a swift recovery and look forward to having him back on track soon”, he added.
Wadeley Racing now looks forward to the next round of the RMC South African Championships, which takes place at Formula K in Benoni at the end of April and a WP Regional in between. With their strong showing in the first national round, they are confident that they can continue to improve and compete at the top level in the championships.
“We will get there mark my words. I’m super proud of both boys. In the wet, although he made a mistake into hockey stick, Jordon got out pulled his kart out the tyres and went from last back to 9th. We are so bleak Matt’s race motor broke the bottom end in practice on Friday as it definitely was the faster engine”, concluded Brad.
