Fresh off a successful first round of the Western Province Regional Championships, Wadeley Racing are well and truly prepped for this weekend’s Round 1 of the 2023 RMC South African Kart Championships, set to take place at iDube Raceway in KZN. Brothers Matthew and Jordon Wadeley will be competing in the Senior Max and Junior Max categories respectively, and below you will find all the information you need ahead of the big race.
Elder brother Matthew Wadeley is a seasoned competitor in the Senior Max category, having won the 2022 WP title and finished in the top 10 in last season’s National Championship. He will be looking to build on his previous success and start the 2023 season on a high note. With his experience and skill, he will undoubtedly be one of the drivers to watch.
Meanwhile, Jordon Wadeley will make his national Junior Max debut at the iDube Raceway. As a young driver, he has shown great potential in the lower categories, and this will be his first opportunity to showcase his talents at national level. Despite his relative lack of experience in the class, he has been putting in a lot of hard work and training to prepare for the race. He will draw immense confidence from his first round WP regional heroics, where he took the challenge to far more experienced drivers in the class.
iDube Raceway is a challenging circuit, with a mix of high-speed corners and technical sections. It is known for its steep gradients and tight hairpin at turn 5, which provides an excellent overtaking opportunity for drivers. The weather is expected to be sunny and warm, with temperatures hovering around 28 degrees Celsius throughout Saturday, there is however a slight chance of rain during the day, something both boys are only too excited about, both having shown terrific skill in wet conditions previously.
The competition on Saturday will be fierce, with many of South Africa’s top drivers competing in the Championships. However, the Wadeley brothers are confident in their abilities and are eager to make a solid start to the season. The team has been working hard in the lead-up to the race, fine-tuning their karts and practising on their home circuit, Killarney International Raceway in Cape Town.
Excited for the challenge this weekend, Brad Wadeley, father and team boss of Wadeley Racing, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming race. He said, “Jordon is looking forward to the challenge of the new class, and we are eager to see what he can do at national level.” Additionally, Brad mentioned that “Matthew showed great pace in practice last year, so we are hoping for results that match his potential this year. With added experience, we believe he can make a good showing.”
It must be noted the team will certainly miss having their two biggests fans, sister Rebecca and mom Leigh, at this weekend’s event while Leigh is still recovering at home. If the team even take the smallest amount of courage and determination that Leigh continues to display you can rest assured they will fair just fine.
In conclusion, the 2023 RMC South African Kart Championships at iDube Raceway is set to be an exciting event, with the Wadeley brothers competing in two highly competitive categories. With Matthew’s experience and Jordon’s potential, the team is looking to make an impact and set the tone for the rest of the season.
Stay tuned for all the latest updates and results from the race.
