National KartingWadeley Camp Can’t Wait To Get Racing in KZN

July 13, 2022
Not even a month has passed since Wadeley Racing impressed at Formula K Circuit in Benoni and they are all but ready to go at it again this weekend for Round 3 of the SA Kart Championships at iDube Raceway just outside of Pietermaritzburg in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Looking back at the two boys’ weekends in Gauteng, both showed that they are genuine contenders for top results and podiums. They will be hoping for more of the same as they tackle the steep slopes of iDube.

Probably one of the craziest motor racing facilities in the world, iDube Raceway is a 1km, high-speed rollercoaster. If you are unfamiliar with the track, do yourself a favour and take a look at some onboard footage below.

Truly mental and the footage doesn’t even do it justice. A rewarding circuit to get right, but get it wrong and the tyre wall situated less than a meter from the tarmac will bite you hard.

Speaking of getting it right. The Wadeley Racing division comes into this weekend feeling confident about good results and a healthy load of points for their SA Kart Championships campaigns. You don’t have to second guess that Matthew and Jordon are brothers, both sit in P4 of their respective Senior Max and Mini Max National standings. Both will be keen to climb further up this weekend too.

Matthew has shown he can run at the sharp end of Senior Max and will be looking to carry his 2021 knowledge of the circuit through into the weekend.

“I’d like to run in the top 5 in each session and improve on what we did last year”, mentioned Matthew.

Jordon will be returning to iDube for the second time in the Mini Max class. He showed decent pace there last year and will be on the hunt for podiums and wins this weekend.

“To be honest, I haven’t driven since Formula K, but I’ve been on the sim to stay sharp. I think it will be a good weekend. Hopefully, I can battle some more with local legend Travis Mingay and maybe even snatch a win or two”, said Jordon.

The boys both have what it takes and will be keen to find their rhythm quickly when they take to the track on Thursday morning for free practice.

“I think our biggest challenge this weekend will come in Senior Max as its our first time there with the Senior package. But I’m confident we can find our sweet spot there quickly. Ultimately the boys must have a blast, keeping it fun is the key to having the results we seek come our way”, were the thoughts of team boss and passionate father Brad.

Friday sees official practice and qualifying, followed by 3 races on Saturday before Sunday’s winner takes all one off event, the 2022 African Open.
