Matthew and Jordon Wadeley will both be back behind the wheel of their CRG karts this weekend as they take on the very best karters in South Africa.
It’s time for the fourth and final round of the Rotax South African Kart Championships at Zwartkops International Raceway on Sunday, and both Wadeley Racing’s drivers will be in the heat of battle in two of the Championships most tightly contested and highly competitive classes.
Matthew Wadeley – Rotax Senior Max – Current Position: 7th
He may be leading the overall Western Province Senior Max Championship, but at National level, Matthew has had to measure himself against the very best of the best in the top chain-driven category in the country.
Regularly boasting 20 plus entries, the Senior Max class has not been shy of green and gold-suited drivers in 2022, and Matthew can hold his head up high considering his debut season’s performance, at times, often matching the one-lap performance of those with far more accolades and experience than himself.
Going into Sunday’s Championship final, Matthew will look to draw on his experience at the Zwartkops circuit from his trip there in 2021, while hoping to build on his experience gained so far this season. He has shown he has what is required to fight with the very best karters in the country and has ambitions of a good weekend in saddle as he looks to secure a top 6 result in the overall Championship standings. 2022 has seen some tough lessons for the Senior Max rookie to learn at National level, but if you are not winning, you are learning, an outlook the Wadeley Racing team holds dear.
“I’m aiming for a top 6 in the Championship and a high placement at this weekend’s National scoring as many points as possible,” said Matthew.
Jordon Wadeley – Rotax Mini Max – Current Position: 6th
The 2022 season has seen Jordon endure the very highs and lows that motorsport has to offer. From front row starts and blistering pace to mechanical failures and coming out on the wrong end of a few on-track battles, it really has been a character-defining experience for Wadeley Racing’s youngest driver. Added that he has embraced the experience without budging, and just wants to go racing.
“I’d like to go there and be relatively fast, try and go for the win, same thing we do everytime,” says Jordon.
And trying to go for the win is exactly what he will do, having gained valuable experience at the Zwartkops circuit last year during the National Final and African Open.
With better luck on his side this Sunday, this youngster has shown he has the outright speed and talent for a National win and it is just a matter of time before he goes home victorious.
Final Thoughts
The team have put in the behind-the-scenes work mainly thanks to father and team guru Brad Wadeley. Both the Senior and Mini Max Championships are incredibly tight and incredibly, any of the top 10 in each class theoretically have a shot at the title.
“The boys are relatively confident, same game plan, do as well as you can and maximise each scoring heat. Both boys laying up in the mix, points are tight and anything can happen, as long as both boys race forward and have a jol then the result will come,” says Brad.
With both boys comfortably in the top half of each of their respective Championships, anything can and probably will happen this weekend.
Expect action aplenty as the Wadeley Racing boys go to battle in Pretoria on Sunday.
